Hello,
I found this forum after trying to find the other JBC forum which appears to no longer exist. I had taken a break from forums and when I came back the site was gone. Where did it go?
I have been Jewish now for a year. I became Jewish with an independent unaffiliated Rabbi and so I have a very eclectic form of Judaism. I am a member now of 2 communities. A lay led unaffiliated community and a reform temple. I am very drawn to the Renewal movement.
When I became Jewish my children also chose to become Jewish. They are now 12, and 14. My oldest son who is 17 did not want to be Jewish and my husband is not Jewish. So we have a very mixed family. It works for us.
My wonderful lay led community runs a small Hebrew school, so my youngest children were able to start attending Hebrew school 3 years ago while I learned and worked with a Rabbi. Now that they are finished with the Hebrew school they initially attended, and we have joined a Reform Temple so they can continue with Hebrew School. They are looking forward to having their B'nai Mitzvot next year which will be their first life cycle event as Jews.
I am probably not as observant as others here. But like others here I have always felt drawn to Judaism. I grew up in a secular Christian home and was never indoctrinated into Christianity so it has taken me a long time to find my way. When I became Jewish is was as if I had come home and was where I was supposed to be. The Rabbi I worked with told me a long time ago she felt I already had a Jewish soul. That my becoming Jewish was simply my coming home.
I look forward to getting to know you all.
Tamar
