I'm Miriam - I'm a JBC since 1999. I'm very interested in learning about Judaism (there's always something new to learn), and sharing what I'm learning with others. I like learning about all kinds of spirituality and religious expression.

About me: I'm 49 and I love knitting, music, cooking, writing, reading, languages (I'm currently learning Chinese) and movies. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1990. My non-religious Jewish-by-birth husband and I adopted a little girl from China in 2005 and she is now 7 years old. I work in my husband's law office.

Thanks to Dena for inviting me!

Miriam

Hi, Miriam.

I'm 49 too Rolling Eyes

I've done various yarn crafts over the years. A couple of years ago, I picked up my crochet hook again after over 30 years when I last made a baby blanket for my aunt. I made a hat and several doily-type women's head coverings in various colors to coordinate with my clothes. They were good projects for the long car rides of several hundred miles to and from my kids' summer camps. I had promised to crochet a personalized tallit bag for my husband 20 years ago, but never got around to it. So recently, I bought a needlepoint tallit bag kit. I have also not done needlepoint since I was a teen.

I am ethnically Chinese, but I don't speak Chinese because I was born in Boston and grew up in California. My mother left China at age nine and spoke Shanghainese at home. My father was born and raised in Portland, OR, so he only knew a little Cantonese. I know more Hebrew than Chinese, and you probably know more Chinese than I do. My husband studied Chinese in college when we were dating just to embarrass me. But the joke was on him because he learned very Communist Chinese which sounded like ghetto-talk to my mother who spoke pre-Communist upper class Chinese. (The word he learned for "spouse" was a crude word for "lover" to my mom!)

I always get excited to hear about more Chinese Jews. Very Happy
