All I can say to you Jeisyn is what someone told to me not too long ago when I left xtianity and embraced Judaism, "welcome home."

If you have not read, "Lets Get Biblical" by Tovia Singer, check out his website.

Bee, I'm curious as to why you write x for Christ? I mean, I know where it comes from, with chi(x) as the first letter of christos, but why would you not write Christian/Christianity etc?

I have listened to many of his lectures as I begin my own conversion process from xtianity to Judaism. For the first time everything just "clicked" and fell together.

It is very difficult at first, then it gets easier. We went through fear, sadness, anger, fear, and sadness, then the feeling of freedom. Forgot to mention that you will also feel rejection, loss, and wanting to belong or identify with a community. The first thing we wanted to do was jump from one religion to another which I personally don't recommend so that you don't find later down the road that it is not for you. You will find that conversion is not easy or the same for everyone. My husband and I decided to learn and live Judaism before we consider conversion. Everyday we learn something new and inspiring from Torah studies, but at first it was overwhelming. We had to learn (still learning) how to study Torahs, when I say Torahs it is all Jewish scriptures written and the oral laws. In christianity you just quote bible verses and expound with parables and make it into life lessons. In Judaism, you read chapters, compare commentaries, explore Talmudic discussions, dig deeper into your logic and reasoning, quote the sages or Rabbi so-and-so, ponder contradictions that were written so you have to think for yourself...then attain insight. You cannot gain any insight if you just read it at face value and if you read it at face value you may completely misunderstand some of the scriptures. We chose to be Bnai Noach (Noahides or House of Noah) conversion is not required by Hashem only that we live according to His mitzvahs, 7 laws broken down to 66 or so subcategories. Some laws or covenants do not apply to us because they may be priestly, or temple laws, laws regarding the land of Israel or certain Halakha. We attend shul, and participate in prayer or holidays. There is no establish community for Noahides, that is in debate even among my husband and I. I feel Noahides should not have a community but the Jewish one only, and he feels we should under the supervision of Rabbi's and elders of the community. Most Noahides eventually convert, by then the transition is easier because they gain a nationality with Israel and they have already established a Jewish way of life as a Noahide. This may not be an option for you and your family, but it will be a suggested one by most Rabbi's. If you have any questions on this option I can certainly try to answer them.

My Journey to Judaism Empty
PostSubject: Re: My Journey to Judaism   My Journey to Judaism EmptyTue Jan 17, 2012 1:12 pm

I love Rabbi Singer's lectures. I had already decided to convert by the time I found him, but I listened to his whole series in order to gain ammunition against my family--my mother in particular--should she try to use Christianity in order to talk me out of Judaism.

But I think it was still a surprise to find out how much of Christianity is built on smoke. It's clear that Jesus fulfilled next to none of the messianic prophecies, and of the ones he did (such as riding into Jerusalem on a donkey), they were very minor and of little importance. They're also easily fabricated, unlike the most serious prophecies--like world peace--which cannot be faked. And it's pretty clear that some of the things Jesus did were faked because they're close to prophesy, but not quite right. That's because whoever wrote it didn't fully understand the prophesy or was reading a bad translation.

It made me come to the conclusion that the God of the Jews and the God of the Christians really isn't the same God. Because God cannot both be singular and alone (as is stated in the Old Testament about 40 times) and part of a Trinity. God cannot be incorporeal and also have a human form. God cannot promise that the Jews will be His people forever and that Torah will be forever, and then turn around and abandon Jews in favor of Christians (or Muslims) and throw out the Torah.

So I'm left asking myself, if you don't believe in the God of the Jews, what God do you believe in? Or, as Rabbi Singer points out, Christianity needs the Old Testament in order to exist, but Jews need nothing but their own texts. Philosophically and scientifically, it's always better to have the original than a copy, and the simplest, most elegant answer is always the better one.

Exactly! I thought it would be SO very difficult to deny the Trinity as it was so much a part of my own identity for 43 years and ALL I ever knew. Funny, I had a minor in Biblical Studies in college (Baptist College - before I became Catholic again) and we read ALLLLLL the Messianic texts but under a Xristian view point.

Amazing when you read it through Judaism - the proper way!

The top 3 are recent. I'm not sure about the others, if they are his or someone else's. Those aren't part of his "journey".
