| So I found this site, because I wondered what my 'hebrew birthday' was...It converts gregorian calendar to jewish calendar! And it even gives the parasha for that day. Nice! http://www.hebcal.com/converter/ | |

| no thanks ... Is there by the way any tradition about the parasha of the birthday ad being meaningful for the person? I am as we speak studying my birthday parasha on aish.com -many interesting articles, food for thought! | |

| Salvia, I'm not sure why you said "no thanks"? I didn't offer anything did I? As far as tradition relating to birthdays/parsha, I would say there might be some thought on a "mystical" connection. But other than that, it's just another lesson of life from Torah! My parsha is Tzav. While you are on Aish, you might want to watch a really good thought provoking series of videos by Rabbi David Fohrman. He is one of my favorites. Especially the way he brings the Torah to life through the Hebrew language. His latest is about Passover - http://www.aish.com/h/pes/t/g/Passover-What-Does-it-Mean-to--be-Chosen.htmlHope you have a chance to watch it! | |

| no thanks - because you said thanks. I meant it like 'you're welcome'. Sorry, my english is rusty *facepalm* My parsha is nitzavim-vayelech (why two parashat at a time?). The explanations are a lot about Rosh haShana, so I'm learning about a jewish holiday while at it :) I'd like to have a look at Aish once a week for the parasha of the week - I hope I'll be able to actually do so! There's a lot to learn over there. Thank you for the link on Passover, I'm surely going to study it Would be more apt than Rosh haShana at this time of the year *nibbles at self imported matzah (midnight snack)* - I hope some will be left for when it's actually Passover! | |

| I use the Hebcal website all the time for looking up Torah portions since I read Torah for my lay-led minyanim about once or twice a month: Torah readingsI also use the website to print out a handy Shabbat candle lighting times chart for my zip code: Shabbat Candle Lighting TimesOr for a Hebrew calendar showing holidays, Torah portions, etc: Hebrew CalendarThe reason that sometimes two Torah portions are read on Shabbat is that the whole 5 books of Moses need to be completed in a year, but there are 54 Torah portions and only 50.5 weeks in a lunar year. In addition, if a holiday falls on a Shabbat, then the special holiday reading is used which causes there to be even more need for double portions on other weeks to make it up. | |

| SMR, I watched the first four videos of the series on Passover you recommended, and I found them very interesting!! Thank you for recommending them. The remarks of the rabbi on the exodus story are food for thought, and in the fourth vid I learned what the depth of the French name for G-d - L'Eternel - actually is.... Thanks | |
