| so my synagogue is starting a new group after the high holy days for people who recently converted, are actively converting as well as exploring Judaism. part of the funding for the group is coming from the URJ which means not only does our Rabbi and community supports us the URJ does as well.
Things are going really well with me i find my self identifying as Jewish even though I am sure i am far away from my mikvah date. | |

| I've been wondering if we shouldn't start something like that at my synagogue, too. There are 3 or 4 of us going through conversion at the same time, plus there two or three converts--and those are just the ones I've met. | |

| There are a lot of converts in my congregation but only a few are "new Jews". Most of them have been Jewish for 20+ years, so they aren't going to be interested in special groups. What do you guys plan to do in your group or do you not know yet? | |

| we are just in the planning stage yea the group is only for new jews so wile there are folks who converted years ago they are not apart of the group. we talked about doing a bunch of things, study, shabbat dinners, prayer, ect, this is also a way to get us plugged in to the broader community not just the synagogue but the broader Jewish community. but it is in formation so we will see i will keep u all posted | |

| Wow, mrenziboi, that's great! Groups can be great! They are offering comfortable place where you can talk about specific topics of your interests, and also where you can find great company for different kinds of activities. What is most important, a group should be the place where you can be relaxed (being "new" somewhere can get you tense) and where you can learn a lot of yourself, of others and of the broader field that surrounds all of you inside and outside your community. You can also have/arrange discussions or study meetings, have some workshops or just talk about certain things, problems, topics, dilemmas etc. I have a lot of experience in working with and in different groups of interest and of support (unfortunately, not in the field of Judaism - as far as I know, we don't have anything like that here - I work mostly with gender and sexual minority groups and also with women groups), so if I can be of any help with any ideas, feel free to write me! | |
