Just a short article on a Canadian MP who became a Jew (while in office!). He has a book out about his conversion which may be of particular interest to Canadians.

This passage makes me uncomfortable:

After countless hours of study and reflection, Marceau took the plunge twice – first through the Reform movement and later through an Orthodox beit din. Perhaps this is only natural for a man who avoids labels.

Well, that article is posted on an Orthodox website, so I don't find it surprising that they would be sure to point out that he went through an Orthodox conversion.

If a convert had been writing the same article, s/he would have probably made no mention of what denomination he is.

But I do like what the convert actually said: “Instead of focusing on the adjective – Reconstructionist, Reform, Conservative, Orthodox – as important as those differences can be, I try to emphasize the noun – Jew,” he explains. “We need to remain one united people, even if we are divided in our opinions.”

I love this. I live in Québec as well and I'm in the process of conversion. I like this guy already!
