I finally finished my conversion scroll.

http://keripeardon.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/conversion-scroll.jpg

The original intent was to have my rabbi and beit din sign it so that it would actually be a fully legal document, but although my rabbi had approved my name in advance, my beit din did not, so they would not sign my scroll with my name listed on it as is (although they agreed I could be given an aliyah as "bat Yitro v' Rut hageirot"). So, the lion at the bottom portion is there to cover up all the signature lines. (That's also why my calligraphy is messier; it was hard to write on top of the paint.)

The top image is a copy of an illumination from a mazhor (probably a haggadah) from about 1322 in Germany (now housed in the British Library). The borders are based on common border art from medieval manuscripts. The font is called Sefer AH and is a modern pseudo-Hebraic font. The paint is basic watercolors. The size of the paper (including about 2" margins) is 12x18"

It's beautiful, Mychal! Oh, I caught myself dreaming of mine, one day in the future....

It's really beautiful. Kol Hakavod!

Thank you! I reckon it took me close to 40 hours to do it (would have been less, though, if I hadn't had to do the corrective bit--probably only about 35).

Mychal, I know this is an older thread, but I was wondering which movement you converted with, and why your beit din did not approve your alternative patronymic?

I am converting Reform, and although the CCAR issued a responsa against a convert using something other than bat Avraham v' Sarah, a responsa is a guideline recommendation not a ruling, so here's hoping I can use my alternative :)

What's interesting is the Conservative Rabbinical Assembly voted a convert COULD use an alternative.
