Do you wear a costume or skip it?

Well, if I had a place to go for Purim, I'd certainly wear one, but I suppose there's a bit of an age difference between me and most of the people on this forum! Laughing

A majority of the members of my minyan wear a costume (mostly home-made) or at least a funny wig or hat on Purim. Last year, I think the most original costume was created and worn by the woman who is has the two year position of Chair of Minyan Board: she was a "chair" Laughing

As I noted earlier in another thread in the Mitzvot category:
"My family has usually done all our costumes in some sort of family theme, which is a fun tradition done by many families in my minyan. Last year we were all "bugs"'; the previous year we were different "Alice in Wonderland" characters. Our best year we were "other holidays": my husband was a piece of matzah; my daughter was a lulav and carried a giant "etrog"; my son was a dreidel; I was a tree (Tu Bishevat)." Another year, my family dressed as characters from the Cat in the Hat: the Cat, Thing 1, Thing 2, and the goldfish.

Many years ago, the family of the above "Chair" came as five different traffic signs (Very simple to make with different colored poster boards). One year a family came dressed as the Five Books of the Torah + Moses (They are a family of six.) The best costume was the kid who was a goat (a sacrifice) to represent Leviticus. They had laboriously taped hundreds of pieces of yarn to a shirt!

Last year I kind of threw together something that was supposed to look like Britney Spears, but everyone thought it was Jewish American Princess. Okey dokey.

That would annoy me. Razz

I'm going to come up with something simple. Maybe even just a silly hat.

What's the reasoning behind the costume thing?

It's because Esther was an underground Jew and as such, was able to "infiltrate" the powers that be and influence it. Then when she revealed herself as a Jew, people were sympathetic.

Cute the music video:

I think I might do a Punky Brewster costume.
