Hi all,
My name is Chava (Hebrew name) and I live in Metro Detroit. I'm walking distance to the city, but my friends who are Detroit purists refuse to let me call myself a Detroiter if I'm not within the city limits. :-) I'm a military wife, mother of two (my nearly-19 year old stepdaughter and my 12 year old son) and social worker. My whole family converted (except for my stepdaughter, who "reaffirmed" her Jewish identity) in 2009, through our local Reform synagogue. We are pretty observant, for Reform Jews....we joke that if the bridge between M.O. and Conservative is "Conservadox", then our family is either "Reserve" or "Conform." (It's not a very good joke, but it's ours, LOL) My husband, an Iraq Vet, would be Orthodox if he had his way, but I describe myself as a Mystical Humanist. In my non-shul related life, I work with children who have experienced either trauma or emotional impairment. I'm also an avid reader and writer- mostly on the topic of religion. I spent four years in seminary, with the goal of becoming a Rabbi, but for various reasons have decided to put that aside in favor of pursuing an MSW.
I think I've rambled on enough for now; but I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!
Chava Tzefira
